Ypres Menin Gate Memorial

Posted On 3rd July 2024

During a recent away trip to Belgium to visit Ypres, members of the chapter attended the Menin Gate memorial. Every day of the year at 20:00 hours the Last Post is played by the buglers of the Last Post Association. This is the traditional final salute to the fallen, in honour of the memory of the soldiers of the former British Empire and its allies, who died in the Ypres Salient during the First World War (1914-1918). During the service, Martin Harrington laid a wreath on behalf of our Chapter in thanks and recognition to those brave soldiers, who have no graves and gave their lives in the defence of freedom. He was assisted by Mick Brealey who read part of the poem “For the Fallen” which is always recited when remembering our fallen heroes.

Martin and Mick’s contribution to these proceedings reflects great credit upon themselves, the Hogsback Chapter and the Harley Owners Group.
