Ride Leader: Al Denton-Miller
6 bikes and 9 riders departed at 0930 from Costa Coffee in Guildford’s Ladymead retail park. Ride led by ADM, road crew were Dave Hardcastle and Buzz Gowans.
The weather was warm, clear and sunny – a beautiful day for a change. Summer gloves were even worn.
We rode about 97 miles to Sandwich in Kent, mainly via the A25 and the A20, stopping for a coffee in Maidstone at the 56 mile mark, then continued on to Sandwich where we had reserved parking to show the bikes off as part of their “Sandwich Salutes the ’40s” weekend.
We ate sandwiches and wandered around for an hour or so looking at the displays, then headed back via the M2. One member was low on fuel, so we stopped at a garage where he actually ran out as we pulled up to the pumps.
The ride formally ended there, and we all carried on to the M25, where the group split as some dropped off South via the M23 and the rest carried on further around the M25.
A good day out was had by all. The organisers of the weekend invited us back and to the other events that they hold in the town. There are some good events there that could be considered for other days out or overnight trips – https://sandwichevents.org.uk/
