Greenham Common & Lasham
26th June 2022

Ride leader: Al Denton-Miller
Road Crew: Paul Cutler, Mike Terry, Suzi Eves, Rob Eves

15 bikes left GHD at 1030 on Sunday 26th and rode to Greenham Common Control Tower (RG19 8BZ) via a mainly A, B and backroads route of 42 miles. 1 bike left en route. Bacon sandwiches and tea/coffee were had and members perused the control tower and cold war memorabilia.

Compton was visited twice en-route as it is just so lovely.

1 hour stop at Greenham Common and then on to Lasham Gliding Club (GU34 5SS) via a 24 mile route. 1 minor incident due to a wardrobe malfunction (scarf flying loose) in Basingstoke resulted in a very short stop on the A339. Assistant Director reminded members of the importance of using mirrors.

After a visit to the Gliding Heritage Centre, with excellent tours by Tony and Graham from Lasham, the ride returned towards Guildford ending at the A3/A31 junction on the Hogsback south of Guildford.

Total ride approx 92 miles.

Weather was lovely – 20-21C, cool, sunny/cloudy.

One group of 3 bikes left the return ride to visit a pub and one bike was recovered after an engine failure.
