Our Hogsback sailors will enter the dramatic raft race - we have a title to defend!

Laurence has a crew to take part in the race. They have helped in construction ie the chuckle brothers, Adrian Gowans and Eepster Chagger helping to build our theme raft which is going to be the flintstones car. 

Of course Laurence is hoping his intrepid  crew will hopefully be dressing accordingly for the big day

New members presentation will be held at Guildford Harley Davidson (GHD) on Saturday followed by a ride out for a coffee and bite to eat.

If you have not attended a presentation before please come along and see how Hogsback ride in a group.

Attendance at a presentation is a requirement to obtain you Hogsback rocker and also a chance to meet other new members.

Everyone else who wishes to come along to watch the fun and games - including Hogsback Chapter’s entry in the Raft Race - should arrive around 12.30 at Manor Park, Shepperton (nearest postcode is TW17 9JT; W3W ///others.join.string). You are advised to avoid arriving much before 12.30pm as streets will be closed for the Procession and there will be disruption until they re-open again. The Raft Race starts at 1pm.

If you are planning on coming along please email dik.gregory@hogsbackchapteruk.org and he will arrange reserved parking for you and instruct Security to direct you to your hard standing parking spot.

Hilary, our Hogsback Merchandise Officer, will have patches available for sale and as an added bonus she will also have her sewing machine at GHD.

Buy your patches and get them sewn on the same day!

There will be a small charge for the patch sewing which will be donated to the Chapter Charities.

Hilary will be at GHD between 11.30am - 2.00pm

Ride with Hamish on some of the country’s best motorcycling roads including The Cat & Fiddle - A537, Snake Pass - A57 and Winnats Pass - A6187.

On the ride up call in at the National Motorcycle Museum. A chance to explore the Devil’s Arse cave and the Ladybower and Derwent (famous as the training ground of the Dambusters Squadron and for those planning on joining Axel's Dambuster Weekend away this is a great teaser). And of course eat as many Bakewell puddings as you like!

This trip is a 2 week adventure down to the European HOG rally in Budapest. The route down will take in some outstanding roads as we pass through France, Germany and then sweep along the Alps West to East through Austria. We will ride the world famous Gerloss Pass and the Grossglockner amongst others.

Then we will spend 4 days in beautiful Budapest where you can attend the rally, relax and chill or go for a bit of Budapest's culture, great food and outstanding scenery.

I will also organise an optional day trip or two from Budapest, probably to Lake Balaton one day and up into the mountains to the East on another

On the way back, we will take a more northerly route through the Czech Republic, stopping for a night at the birthplace of real Budweiser beer (not the American pish), then across Germany homewards. we will get back to the UK on the Friday afternoon so you will have weekend free to clean your bike after a fantastic adventure!

Expect around 2,500 miles over the two weeks, average of around 250 miles per day and longest day of 300 miles. Hotel cost is an average of £100 a night for a double room with breakfast included. Singles will be slightly less.

The ride is to start from France on Saturday 17th June, we have booked a hotel very close to the Eurotunnel so not to have an early start on the first day travelling from the UK to France via Eurotunnel.

The emphasis on the ride is to be a ‘Holiday’ and hence the reasons we will be stopping of at major towns and cities of interest where once we have reached our location at a reasonable time, we can then do the tourist thing and venture out taking in the sights and the restaurants and bars alike.

Don’t worry about the distances as we will be having frequent stops for both riders and pillions (both Stephen and I have our wife/partner with us). Hopefully en route will be stopping at places of interest to break up the day.   The roads we aim to take will be a mixture of motorway and non-motorway so to always keep everyone fresh and alert and more importantly safe.

Please note that some destinations may need to change due to availability and cost.

There are three away rides this weekend and today is Father's Day so for those that aren't on those away rides this is a Sunday morning A-road blast around Surrey and Hampshire. Hopefully you should all be home around lunch time to spend time with the family. 

Taking the A24 and A25 towards Newlands Corner before heading down a few country lanes past GHD then a few more country lanes and onto the A31/A32.

There is no return ride planned but I will lead a ride north via A272/A3 after brunch if needed.

Let us help a young man to make an entrance to his Prom the event of a lifetime.

We need one trike and many of our members to join for a noisy entrance nobody forgets. 

The prom will take place at Chobham Golf Club. At present the prom is due to start at 7:30pm however ride start time has not yet been confirmed. The ride will be a short 5 mile ride.

Join Hamish on a long but gentle ride through Sussex. There’ll be a brief stop to stretch the legs before heading on for lunch at Beachy Head and a chance to visit the RAF Bomber Command Memorial.

There will be a leisurely ride back to GHD with a stop for tea at Billy’s on the Road.

We have another hospice ride! Ask anyone who came on the recent Weldmar Hospice ride in May, and they’ll confirm what a heartwarming experience this can be. St Wilfred’s is at Bosham, just past Chichester and within a 90 minute ride down mainly A roads via Petworth.

We’ll meet at Guildford Harley Davidson at 9.30am for a 10.00am departure.

All welcome, especially those willing to take pillion passengers, trikes and bikes, but also for anyone who wants to come along and ride with us to chat with the patients and staff, and accompany the passengers as it’s SO much more fun to ride in a gang!

These hospice rides are great fun and helping patients cross “Harley Ride” off their bucket lists is heart warming in the extreme. If you feel able to take someone out for a pillion ride, please bring a spare jacket and helmet. 

Otherwise come along and chat with the patients and staff - They all have a story to tell!

A 6 night and 7 days trip down to the Black Forest in Southern Germany based at the lovely Central Hotel in Villingen-Schwenningen-for three nights while we ride some of the best roads that the area has to offer including the iconic B500 as well as many other lesser known but even better roads that Al has in his box of tricks.

Spectacular scenery with lakes, mountains and of course some forest. Excellent food, great company and of course some proper German beer

UPDATE - Chapters 2gether 40th rally at Fields of Thunder. The organizers have confirmed that a shuttle bus will be running to local hotels of which there are many as its close to Luton airport. For those intending to book please contact Dell director@hogsbackchapteruk.org as we have a discount code for a small number of places. So far over 30 HOG chapters are confirmed as attending so its gonna be a big event.

Apart from HD’s 120 this this year it is also 40 years since HOG was formed and hot off the press there will be a UK rally to celebrate. This has been organised by the UK chapters with HOG and is attached to the Fields of Thunder biker rally at Slapton Bucks near Leighton Buzzard so not far from us on 21 – 23 July.

Hogsback will be running a ride to the event to join in the fun. The weekend will include a big live music offering, custom show, area events,  ride out, trader stalls, and all the usual rally stuff going on with a big offering of food and drink on site. 

The onsite under cover arena where the activities are center's holds 3000 and all the UK chapters intend to have a presence. 

Accommodation options are camping and glamping on site plus local hotels with shuttle bus service being arranged.

Hogsback have reserved a number of glamping tents (reserved for one month only so don’t hang about) based on £200 for the weekend for those wanting to be on site. This includes 1 event ticket (£25) and we are exploring hotel options. For those interested in reserving a glamping tent they are bell tents with beds, bedding etc along with access to good showers and toilet facilities . Camping is £40 including 1 event ticket.

A trip to the mountains, lakes and views of Snowdonia. 

Departing GHD at 8.30 on Thursday 27th July for a non motorway ride to Snowdonia stopping for a pub Lunch in Hartpury the on to Betws-y-Coed, arriving at our hotel by 5pm. 

Friday and Saturday we will ride through-out Snowdonia and the Elan Valley. We have a Dinner B&B package at the hotel but if you want to eat out you can change the option to B&B.

Join Peter O for a ride to the Calne Bike Meet, one of the largest free motorcycle events in Europe. For one day motorbikes take over Calne for the annual Calne Bike Meet. There will be bike displays, live music, trade stands and plenty of food outlets.

So let’s hope for a sunny day for a nice ride to Calne set in the Wiltshire country side. There will be a comfort stop on the way and once we arrive marshals will direct us to where we can park our bikes. Route there will be non motorway and suitable for all riders and either bike or trike.

Gods own Junk Yard (Road Captain Chris North)will lead a ride on Sunday 30th July 2023.

Meet at Cobham Services at 9:00am to leave 9:30am to Gods Own Junk Yard, London E17, an iconic fabulous warehouse of beautifully made neon lights, shaped in artistic Rock & Roll memorabilia.

If you are feeling flush, light yourself up with one of these amazing lights.

The Café on site called The Rolling Scones plus micro brewery nearby!

In order to avoid most of central London the route via M25, A2 and Blackwall Tunnel. Total mileage about 80miles.

Join me for a scenic ride through the Sussex country side to Chichester were we will meet the New forest , 1066, Reading and Thames valley chapters for a mass ride into Selsey for the Lifeboat day celebrations.

Free entry

A day full of fun activities on Lifeboat Green, including Stalls, Funfair, Raft Race, Classic Car and Harley Davison static displays (East Beach car park/East Beach Field), Selsey Shantymen, all culminating in an exciting demonstration by Selsey Lifeboats, the Coast Guard and visiting Lifeboat crews.

Stay as long as you wish, There will be no official cut off time ride back to Guildford.

Meet at Burger King Ladymead Guildford 08.45am and Depart at 09.15am

Arrive Chichester 10.30am and Depart for Selsey at 11.00am

If you want to hone your skills when manoeuvring at slow speed come and join us for a morning of riding around cones with the odd competition thrown in.

We have the use of the parade ground at Gibraltar Barracks, Minley, so Pre-registration and vehicle details required ASAP for security passes. We need to get the passes issued before entering the barracks.

Hilary will lead a 1 hour / 45 miles ride - mostly A roads some B - to Highclere Castle - location of the Downton TV series.  

Castle tour and gardens with café.  Hilary aims to have a tour round the castle and grounds and then have lunch in the café.  Led ride back to Guildford if wanted.

We will take some less ridden roads towards the M4 J15 (via A31, A325, A287, A30, A339, A4, B4192 and A419) avoiding the M4 if possible, to arrive in Cirencester around check-in time, giving you time to have a look around, freshen-up ready for the bar opening at 4pm.

The ride is approximately 85 miles and 1 hour 45 minutes.  If I can find somewhere safe to stop on-route I will.  However trying to accommodate > 50 bikes and trikes in a layby could be challenge!

I will stop the ESSO Calcutt (A419 just outside Cirencester) so anyone who needs fuel can fuel-up and plan to arrive RAU approximately 2:00-2:30pm

We join our French twin chapter once again for their famous Champagne rally. Reims chapter put on a spectacular riding rally travelling through and visiting places we would normally not have access to – imagine 500 Harleys riding through the private champagne estate roads, it’s a great experience. This is the French version of our Cirencester rally and the rally ticket includes food, wine, fuel and hotels.

Three nights, 600 or so miles and the longest day is around 200 miles.

The Wine Festival of the Middle Mosel takes place every year in early September in Bernkastel-Kues. The highlights of the festival include the coronation of the Wine Queen "Mosella" on Friday, the brilliant firework display on Saturday and the big parade of wine-floats on Sunday. 

Early Departure Thursday 31st August via the Eurotunnel then it will be a day of crunching the miles so that we arrive in Bernkastle-Keus by 5pm. Lots of stops on the way for leg stretch and lunch. 

Friday and Saturday will be short riding days along the Mosel and surrounding areas taking in the odd dealership and stopping for Coffee and Cake before returning to enjoy the Festival. 

Sunday is a non riding day, with a mile crunching day back to the tunnel on Monday.

We have been asked by the Shalford Community if the local Hogsback Chapter could do a ride past the Common & Cricket Ground on September 3rd and then exhibit our bikes for people to look at for their Fair. 

The Great Fair of Shalford 2023 takes place on Sunday 3rd September 2023 and promises to be a perfect end-of-summer social and a time to eat, drink, dance and socialise again at a family-friendly event that celebrates life getting back to normal! This once famous event is being brought back to life to celebrate our vibrant local community, with lots of laughter, music and fun for everyone, young or old to enjoy. There is a farmers Market stalls, dog show, fun fair, band(s), beer tent, Silent Pool Gin, classic cars etc.

The event opens at 11:00am and closes about 5.30pm

Should be a good afternoon and it would be really great if we can get a good number of members with there Harleys for the display and support our local Community.

Some background history .... Centuries ago the Great Fair of Shalford was an eagerly anticipated annual event so notorious that it emerged by decree of King John in 1287 and attracted thousands of traders from all over the country to sell their wares, bringing with them plenty of good old fashioned merriment to our beautiful village.

A ride through London to the classic Bike Shed Motorcycle Club EC1 for a full biker breakfast.

Meeting at Cobham Services 8.00 am for an 8.15 departure expected EC1 arrival 10 am.

Approximately 56 mile round trip.

Czes leads a ride to the last big Rally of 2023: New Forest Chapter’s Blazin’ Wild West Rally – a 4-day 3-night party weekend taking place at Lakeside Coastal Village Hayling Island.

Meeting at Ryka’s Café Box Hill 8.15 for an 8.30 start.

We ride about 100 miles on a variety of twisted roads and stunning autumn scenery.

With a stop at Whiteways Café for drinks and a bacon bap, and Goodwood Racing Circuit for photos.

The ride officially ends after a roar through the Hindhead tunnel.

Meeting at GHD from 10am for a 10:30 departure - 10am was actually 11am the day before, so no excuses - as last night the clocks went back and you had an extra hour of sleep.

Laurence will provide a brief description of the route before we depart around 11.15am to take a leisurely ride through some scenic A and B roads to Shamley Green Christ Church where a poppy wreath will be laid.

A poem written and read out by Gordon Allen will end the ceremony.

Parking for Club Night:

Please first fill the parking in front and down the side of the dealership (staff cars will be moved elsewhere). We have permission for overflow parking to use Howden’s and Freehand which are both on the side road of the dealership. There will be person(s) on hand to point you in the right direction. 

Remember please avoid parking on double yellow lines, especially on the main access road as you run the risk of being fined by parking enforcement. Access down to Riverway estate must remain clear to allow access especially for larger vehicles like the stagecoach buses, whom have a depot at the very bottom of the estate.
